Unveiling a Bizarre Steam Demo: Playing as a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have found plenty of entertaining independent titles. However, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired jumping adventure includes a character that is truly a dung striving to navigate to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."

How you interact is straightforward: press a one button to leap. Throughout one hundred fifty levels, you'll face boss fights and visit a shop to buy outfits for your dung hero.

Time your jumps carefully, since one error requires restarting the level. Jump on floating orbs to hurl your character upward, traverse fragile ledges, and touch triggers to open secret routes. Gather currency and use them on more difficult levels in which the action gets crazy.

Graphically, the demo features neon stages and an amazing music score. Its minimalist graphics of moving basic polygons may remind gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.

Even though difficult to think of similar titles where you play as a dung character, gaming frequently featured fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, you can make explosives from protagonist excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as fertilizer. Naturally, this theme is present heavily in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its silly premise, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive accolades, like taking top honors at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is available at present on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to arrive on computers on November 19.
