In the episode, a flashback reveals that popular personality Alastor the Radio Demon was a serial killer in his mortal days. Knowing full well he was headed to the underworld, he established communication with the afterlife beforehand to secure a powerful role in Hell. The charismatic leader, who leads the cannibal faction in Hell, promised Alastor he would become “the most powerful Sinner in Hell” in return for his soul.

This raises an important query: How is Rosie sufficiently strong to raise Alastor over all other Demonic Sinners?

“The Rosie and Alastor deal is the initial building block in a much bigger story that encompasses a great deal, moving into the third season,” the showrunner explains. “Obviously that is a perfect question: How is she that powerful? The answer could be various factors, but the revelation is in season three. I am thrilled for fans to witness it.”

It is uncertain how long the audience will have to remain for Hazbin Hotel’s third season. The production companies have approved the third and fourth seasons, but the showrunner frequently remarks that animation is a slow, lengthy process, and later seasons have no release dates yet. Still, she states withholding on specific information is a crucial aspect of keeping season 2’s focus in the right places.

“The challenge of any agreement with infernal beings, or stories that have mysteries, is providing the audience sufficient clues to be like, Something's up here, and then unveiling that gradually, and letting that be satisfying,” she comments. “So I'm very excited.”

Questions Answered in The Next Season

The showrunner assures that season 3 will address the questions fans have been asking, such as why Rosie ordered Alastor to disappear for a seven-year period, which weakened his power in Hell.

“The entire seven-year span, and the pacts these individuals are making, and everything — it's feeding into a larger story,” she says.

Meanwhile, the Rosie/Alastor backstory episode offers another glimpse into what the core cast of Sinner Demons appeared as as mortals, following after viewing another character's Victorian-era mortal appearance in episode 2. She says that significant consideration was put into these character designs.

“The human versions of these personas hold great significance,” she says. “They range from appearing quite distinct from their infernal version to looking almost identical. With Pentious, the first one we see, there was a little bit of a debate within the team between choosing something that symbolizes the personality, as opposed to selecting an option that's very time-period accurate. We leaned toward creating something that just felt like it was him.”

She mentions the primary controversy over Pentious’ human design was his lengthy locks: “We were like, ‘Nobody typically had long hair like that in Victorian-era London.’ But at the same time, we think the silhouette is so important, and we also just thought he looked good. We were like, ‘This seems correct.’ We kind of gave the excuse that he's a hermit, so he just let his hair grow out. So there is always a solution. As we design the human versions of these personas […] it's such a fun thing to explore and determine. I'm excited for people to view additional of the appearances of the human versions.”
