One senior officer that leaped to the help of a colleague that got attacked by a knifeman received the Monarch's Honor for Courage.

Sergeant Tim Ansell fought with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown after he held a knife to the throat of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown initiated the assault as the officers and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist after a vehicle incident in that location in summer 2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed both Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stunned him with a Taser.

"Policeman attacked," the officer stated over his communication device.

Officer-mounted and dashboard camera footage released by the police department depicted Brown, who was dressed in black with a hood covering head, rush to Sgt Foster from behind with a weapon extended.

He struck the officer who stumbled and fell to the street, before Sergeant Ansell stepped in and attempted to subdue him to the floor despite being multiple times hit with the weapon.

Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and waited for a open target, concluding the struggle to an end.

Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "Can I get help on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the neck."

Sgt Ansell received two deep cuts to his throat and additional cuts to his limbs and body, whereas Sergeant Foster experienced knife wounds.

Officials said Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to stem his partner's bleeding before medical personnel arrived.

The new award follows subsequent to the law enforcement team were granted internal Valor Recognitions in fall 2023 and the police federation award from the area Police Federation in spring 2024.

They were also awarded a North West Valor Recognition in mid-2024.

"The actions of each policeman in the end protected one another and meant no civilians suffered any harm."

Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in April 2024, as stated by officials.
