New England Equal Longest Winning Streak From Brady Era with Win Over New York Jets
Rookie Henderson has tallied five scores this season
The New England Patriots tied their best victory streak since the Tom Brady period as they overcame division opponents the New York Jets by 13 points in professional football
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson shone brightly with three scores as the Patriots notched an eight-game winning streak for the first time since legendary quarterback Tom Brady's final season with the team in 2019
Quarterback Drake Maye accumulated 281 yards and a TD, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
Victory extends the Patriots advantage at the top of the AFC East as they improved to a 9-2 record, with the New York bottom after slipping to two victories and eight defeats
The Jets had gone in front at their home field with quarterback Fields scoring a five-yard TD to conclude the New York's first possession
But the New England fought back in the second period as the rookie rushed for two seven-yard touchdowns before the running back hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the rear of the endzone halfway into the third quarter to push the score to 21-7
"That was a key occasion for him rising to the challenge, and it's been excellent for him to keep earning playing time," the quarterback commented on the rookie. "He desires to be great."
Justin Fields found Metchie late in the third period to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Borregales kicked a two field goals in the final period as the home side wrapped up the victory
