A Tooth Fairy Tale Review: Cartoon Adventure with a Touch of Family-Friendly Preteen Love Story

Throughout this animated adventure for preteens, the fairy community is dedicated to collecting teeth from sleeping youngsters and placing gold under their pillows. Board-riding youthful nonconformist fairy Van (voiced by Booboo Stewart) shows little enthusiasm about spending his future to gathering baby teeth—a feeling that’s completely understandable. He’s only slightly more curious about the underlying economics behind it all: the fairies deliver the teeth to unseen goblins, who provide metal as payment. But Van’s curiosity grows when he spots a goblin (voiced by Larkin Bell), who proves to be far from the hideous gnome he had imagined.

A Forbidden Connection and Common Enemy

Everything is prepared for an exciting quest with a light sprinkling of teen romance (even though it remains very much suitable for children). The fairy and goblin groups are estranged from one another, and nothing fuels the excitement of secrecy to unite beings together. The two species portrayed in the film are remarkably alike, yet each holds biased views about the other. Fairies are supposed to be self-centered sorts, prone to taking anything they want, while goblins are reportedly stupid, smelly, and primitive, but are actually bright and advanced in technology.

Of course, this scenario needs a shared foe to unite against, and this is duly provided by a group of vicious spiders, voiced by Jon Lovitz and Fran Drescher. They make no secret about their intentions: they aim to devour the fairies and goblins, and they make for fairly bloodthirsty, if not particularly skilled, villains.

Target Audience and Final Thoughts

There aren’t all that many children’s animations targeting the kind of audience that is beginning to have first crushes, but are not old enough for whatever teenagers view these days instead of popular teen sagas. Should your youngster is in the right age bracket, this is unlikely to be their next favorite movie, but it’s a decent choice.

A Tooth Fairy Tale arrives in movie theaters in Scotland from 10 October and the rest of the UK from 24 October.
